Aqiqah is Sunnah mu’akkadah. For a Boy two sheep should be sacrificed, each of which should meet the same conditions as a sheep for udhiya (sacrifice), and for a Girl one sheep should be sacrificed. The sheep should be slaughtered on the seventh day, but if there is a delay it may be slaughtered at any time, and there is no sin in delaying it, although it is preferable to do it as soon as possible. And Allah is the Source of strength; may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions.

The Sunnah of Making Du'a for the New Born Parents:
“Our Lord, grant us delight in our spouses and our children, and make us a good example for the righteous.” [25:74]
Hasan al-Basri (Allah be pleased with him) advised a man to supplicate with the following words when congratulating new parents:
“May Allah bless you in His gift to you, may you give thanks to the giver of this gift, may the child reach the maturity of years, and may you be granted its righteousness.”
Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani (Allah have mercy on him), the great Imam and follower (tabi’i), would congratulate new parents with the following supplication:
“May Allah make the child a blessing for you and a blessing for the Ummah of Muhammad (Allah bless him & give him peace).”
